    Quality Assurance

    Posted on |

Heritage Physiotherapy & Co are delighted to announce we are part of a national audit called the Physio First Data for Impact study. This project has been commissioned by Physio First (the trade organisation representing Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice in the UK) to enable private practitioners to quantify the effectiveness of the interventions they provide.

“The unique Physio First Quality Assured Practitioner (QAP) scheme enables physiotherapists to demonstrate what private physiotherapy can offer to patients, and how our skills, experience and treatment techniques can achieve the best outcome for every patient we assess and treat.” (PhysioFirst 2023)

Why are Heritage Physiotherapy & Co Participating in this research?

Heritage Physiotherapy & Co are dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for our patients. By using the data for impact study to statistically demonstrate the success of our rehabilitation interventions, we are helping to promote the effectiveness of our company as well as championing the effectiveness of physiotherapy in the private sector.

Please read the information from The University of Brighton below that explains more about this unique and important audit. If you have any questions, please email nikki@heritagephysiotherapyandco.com

What is Data For Impact and Quality Assured Practitioner Status?

Participating physiotherapists will ask their patients if they are happy for their treatment information (or data) to be included in the audit. To ensure compliance with GDPR regulation, we will only collect data that is necessary to perform the task. The University of Brighton is able to process personal data for the purposes of research, using ‘Public Interest’ as its legal basis for processing data. For further information, please see the University’s Privacy notice https://staff.brighton.ac.uk/reg/legal/other/Research_Privacy_Notice.pdf

What information is collected about our patients?

General details (including age, gender and occupation) Why physiotherapy is needed (the physiotherapist’s diagnosis of your condition) – What treatment was given and the results of the treatment – The discharge information (outcome of treatment and goals achieved)

Who collects this information, and who will have access to this data?

Your physiotherapist will collect the information and enter it onto a password protected national database which is held by an independent organisation, the University of Brighton. Whilst your name will be visible to the practitioner on their system, your name will not be transferred across to the University. Instead, an automated code (with no identifying information) is created for each patient record.

    How is the information used?

The University of Brighton bring together and analyse data from participating physiotherapy practices across the UK. The university send a summary report of the national data to Physio First, and this is also available to the physiotherapist. The national data may also be published in academic journals or presented at physiotherapy conferences, however, you will not be identifiable within it.

Can patients refuse to give this information?

Yes. If you don’t want information about your care to be used, you have the right to request that it isn’t. This will not affect the care and treatment you are given. If you have any questions or concerns about the information collected, please discuss this with your physiotherapist. If you are happy for your information (or data) to be included, please can you complete the attached consent form and hand it to your physiotherapist. If your treatment is being carried out remotely, for example via video link or telephone, your physiotherapist will send you this information sheet and a consent form electronically. In order to provide your consent, please complete and return the consent form electronically or respond to their email clearly stating that you have read the Patient Information Sheet and that you consent for your data to be used as part of the national audit.

How will this impact me as a patient?

All the questions that are used as part of the audit form part of Heritage Physiotherapy & Co’s initial assessment. Therefore, you will not be asked to fill out lengthy forms. With your permission we may contact you after discharge to document your improvement over an agreed period of time.

Thank you for taking the time to read about this audit. Please contact nikki@heritagephysiotherapyandco.com for more information.

    Our Super Powers

We work hard with your child to assess, manage, and treat a variety of conditions.

Traumatic injuries: Such as fractures sprains and strains
Pre and post orthopaedic surgery: Elective and traumatic
Chronic Conditions: Shoulder instability, postural pain, gait abnormalities, Talipes, Osgood slatters, coordination challenges, hypermobility.

The Guardians of Your little ones Galaxy

As a parent you will agree that children are resilient, determined with boundless energy. They are also inquisitive, fearless and slightly accident prone at times! Exploration is important for a child’s development, but we understand that for parents, looking after a child that has experienced a traumatic injury is a worrying experience. Similarly, if your child is managing a chronic condition, we understand it is vital to you that your little superstar is living life to the full. All our appointments are generously times as we don’t want anyone to feel rushed. There is plenty of time to ask questions and practice exercises so that everyone is confident and happy.

The Side Kick (because every hero needs a trusted side kick)

Nikki, Our lead clinician uses a combination of role play, games and functional activities to help your child feel at ease, whilst gaining all the important information we need to provide the highest quality rehabilitation. Our aim is to make our patient and parents feel as comfortable as possible with all sessions available in the comfort of your own home, or in our fabulous clinic where our patients can enjoy playing in the beautiful grounds of the Harewell campus as part of the assessment.

Our lead clinician is a mother to two energetic boys and has a very real understanding of the anxiety parents face when their child is not at their best. We run a supportive, caring and approachable service so that everyone feels content and happy.

    Our Pledge

At Heritage Physiotherapy & Co we provide a transparent, ethical, and conscientious service. We love to speak to our patients’ guardians before our appointment to make sure we are the best service for your child. If we are unable to help, or have any concerns, we will sign post you to the most appropriate service. Following your child’s treatment, we will also send you a concise report, so you have records of your child’s diagnosis and treatment play. We also frequently liaise with multidisciplinary teams such as the patients GP and SenCo if indicated and informed consent given.

We understand children may not always want to conduct their exercises, but at Heritage Physiotherapy & Co, we are master motivators and disguise our exercise programs in fun game play.

Don’t like superheroes? Perhaps your child is a little bit older? No problem! Please let us know your child’s favourite characters/interests, and we will develop an exceptional, evidence-based assessment to help them engage with the process.

Extra, Extra, read all about it! This is what parents said about our paediatric clinic

“We reached out to Nikki in July 2022 after finding it out that the waiting list for physiotherapy to help with my daughter’s suspected dyspraxia was going to be at least a year long.

Nikki came to visit us at home to do the initial assessment, all of the activities were really fun and my daughter felt really at ease. We were given a set of exercises to work on which really helped and then had a couple of follow up sessions where a new set of exercises were given each time.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Nikki.”

“After breaking his elbow (non-displaced lateral mass fracture) and being in a cast for 5 weeks, my son (5) had a very stiff arm that was taking longer than expected to get better so we booked an appointment with Nikki to get him checked out.

Nikki was so great with my son, doing a Super Hero themed assessment and exercises so she could see his arm moving in different ways – he even got a Super Hero cape, mask, stickers and bubbles, which he was really pleased about. He was having so much fun pretending to be The Flash, Hulk and Spider-Man that he didn’t really clock he was having a proper physio/ musculoskeletal assessment, and it went really smoothly! Nikki was really friendly and professional. She explained what each exercise was for and the results to me in plain English, and the report to give my GP was sent through later that day.

Heritage Physiotherapy & Co are based at The Fitness Experts gym on Harwell Science and Innovation Campus just outside Didcot, Oxfordshire. It’s a really nice environment and there is an open area of grass outside that was perfect when more space was required for some of the assessments (e.g. crawling around like Spider-Man). There’s also a really nice café next door for before or after your appointment.

I highly recommend Nikki and Heritage Physiotherapy & Co. It was a very professional and well-run appointment in a lovely setting. I will definitely go back to see Nikki if anyone in the family needs to see a physio”.

For more information or to make a booking, please call 07500 181 215. We look forward to meeting your little hero!
